    Successful poker player

The link below will give you a decent amount of knowledge on the entirety of the subject. Obv, there are a good amount of idiots on the site that you should completely disregard. I did switch to trading from poker back in Mar 09 and did very well at my firm. Made them a ton of money but they...

Anybody else short US 30 Bond

Yea, the same is true at the firm I work. It sounds like you and me could work for the same firm. We have fired around 80% of our traders in the past 5 months. Morale is completely gone and it's a very depressing environment to work in. Moreso Eurodollar guys, but still a good chunk of...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

The stress comes from the numerous suckouts that can come at once, the prolonged downswings which could last a month or 2, and the intensity of staring at a screen for so long and not making any money. Bankroll management online is having 50 to 100 buyins for the games your playing.

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

Yea, true. You can always have the black swan happen in trading and not in poker. That's the one thing that I don't like about trading. My job is salary+ bonus though so at least I'm not risking any of my own capital. This is probably one reason it feels less stressful too. It's always good...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

Honestly I think the opposite is true with maybe a dozen occasions the other way around. I played 9-12 tables at once of midstakes nl 6 max games and had a max of 20 seconds to make a decision. Having 3-4 decision I make a second vs. looking for trading opportunities doesn't even compared. Now...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

I was a pro poker player for 5 years and now have been a trader for the past 2 and trading is a hell of a lot less stressful on a day to day basis. For my style, trading has smaller draw-downs. In poker, I had like 60% winning days vs. trading about 80% winning days.

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

I meant to say trading has less variance and less stressful.

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

I created this thread a while back and maybe you could find some useful stuff in there. I did make the switch and work for a large prop trading/market making firm. You can PM me or post me whatever questions you have...

Recent Graduate....want to work as a trader

Wow, you're being pretty ignorant. I never got that feeling when I was interviewing at top prop trading/market making firms. Also just to get an interview you don't need to be that smart. There's no reason OP can't at least get an interview at a couple of those firms. If not, then there's...

    Aardvark Trading

Aardvark is a subsidiary of TMG so it's really not a small firm. I know people at TMG that got their offer the day of their 2nd interview. To my knowledge most of those guys got an offer within a week.

    Aardvark Trading

They are really picky. They see about 500 applicants per each hiring period and maybe hire 2-3. I've seen alot of the resumes that work at TMG/Aardvark and it's sick. Most are from Ivy League schools w/ 3.7+ GPA or have some kind of top notch work experience related to the field.

Is Trading Right for Me or Should I Stick with Poker?

I know some people on here would like to find out where I'm at now. I did get an offer from a top MM/prop trading firm and accepted it. I have only been working for about 1 1/2 months and have enjoyed the experience. I've been trading for about a month and have had alot of success despite a...

They're hiring more people now than ever. 5 people each month for the next few months. Heard it straight from the source.

What college majors are best for trading (and are favored by trading firms)?

What??? I did go to I.U. and managed to get alot of interviews with top tier trading firms (based on experience and qualifications), and they all told me "why should I hire you over an Ivy League? It's rare to hire a guy from a state school (but top 10 b-school) under a 3.8 GPA." Getting in...

What college majors are best for trading (and are favored by trading firms)?

For a serious answer, you do need a good math background in most cases if you're applying to top trading firms i.e. DRW, Jane Street Capital, GETCO, etc. Check out wallstreetoasis.com under the top prop trading firms thread to get alot more info. I've had interviews with alot of firms and...
