    Losing money consistently

Learning to take the emotion out of trading is a big necessity. It’s very hard to do but I agree it’s absolutely essential to trading well. All too often guys take winning systems and screw them up because they get emotional.

    How High?

I see the markets staying overbought for a while. All US companies seem to be issuing cautions and lower guidance but the markets aren’t listening. They’ll go up but be prepared for a correction back. Most P/E ratios are pretty high according to historical guidelines.

More Men in Prime Working Ages Don't Have Jobs

I had no idea the Interactive Brokers guy was so wealthy. Sure, some traders can make a fortune actually trading, but really the middle-man always makes the money no matter which way the market swings.

All your strategies and methods have been stored at NSA, everything.

The NSA’s power is astounding to me. I’m not sure how many of these are rumors or true, but it’s mindboggling to think that such an organization could and does exist. I wonder how much world data they can actually keep a pulse on.

More Men in Prime Working Ages Don't Have Jobs

This is true, being the broker is far better than being the trader. Guaranteed money without any risk.

    Why good platforms ignore mac?

This thread has a great discussion. I think Macs are cool and all, but I do agree that Windows has gotten a lot better and this whole “we hate Microsoft” mantra has to die. Linux and Mac have their uses and some of those are quite good, but Windows Server 2012 is a lot better than the old...

US now spending 26% of available tax revenue just to pay interest

I don’t see any way out of this but inflation. I’m worried that inflating will destabilize the world markets significantly. Plus you would think that inflation is kind of “cheating” in that sure the creditors get paid but they won’t be getting paid with the same value that they lent out.

Ukraine Just Airlift Its Entire Gold reserve to FED

This is very interesting. It would seem very strange that any sovereign nation, even one in war, would trust another country with its gold supply.

    How to trade around earnings?

Yeah, earnings are a crapshoot at best. I used to think that I could trade around earnings but since realized that’s not a great way to make money. You would have to have insider knowledge to make it work, but the SEC frowns upon that…

Some bad mojo in the air

The Fed cannot continue to print money but they cannot seem to withdraw it either. The economy and markets have gotten so used to it that it’s going to cause problems whether or not QE continues.

TWTR - Twitter starts trading November 7

Twitter has nowhere to go. Yes they have an incredible user base and maybe they can pull a miracle out like Facebook has, but I doubt it. The whole concept of Twitter is tough to make a good profit on. Plus, everyone who wants a Twitter account probably has one by now – and a lot of those...

    Another Quant Fund shuts down...

Sounds like they may not have had a clear strategy... Going from $3.6 billion in 2007 to $1 billion in 2013 is a big drop. Investors clearly lost confidence.

    Deflation...

It strikes me that the US could go through a period of deflation. Whether or not that’s entirely a bad thing remains to be seen I suppose. I know it’s anecdotal in a way, but retailers reported that they needed to heavily discount products to get consumers over Christmas. The average...

Paul Walker dead at 40: 'Fast and Furious' star killed in fiery car crash

I agree. It’s nice to read stories like that – of people giving back to their communities and to their fans. At least he was able to do some good.
