    401K Newbie Question

Thank you! I get that. But will Fidelity/Vanguard auto sell to lock in gains so it's compounded year over year. Or is it like regular investment accounts where I hold the stock for as long as I want and there's no autoselling. Does that make sense?

    401K Newbie Question

Hi Guys, Quick newbie question: When I contribute to my 401K at work, assuming I see gains, do I need to sell my holdings manually to lock in those gains and reinvest? Or does my 401K management company auto sells my holdings at the end of the year and reinvests the proceeds? Thanks.

    Trading News Platforms

I was thinking about trading the news. I've been trading news here and there, and I've been able to scalp 2-3% (if the stock surges 10%+) in the past year or so, and I would like to look into it seriously. That would mean that I would need a platform that gets me the news asap, so I can make...

    Trading IRA vs. Regular Account

I'm not going to be trading every day. I'll be trading once maybe month or once three months, but I want to know what the difference would be in trading from IRA vs. a regular account? Why should I open an IRA account vs. a regular account to trade? Thanks.

    Trading IRA vs. Regular Account

I'm a short-term swing trader. Would it be better for me to setup an IRA account and trade from there, or setup a regular account and trade from there? What are advantages/disadvantages of using both? Thanks.

    Job Satisfaction -

Hell yeah, there is job satisfaction. I work in the online media/advertising space and I love every minute of it. Of course, I know what I'm doing and as a result, a highly valued employee at the company. You need to find out what you love doing and figure out a way to get hired doing it...

    Why Diversify Your Portfolio?

Thanks for the discussion, everyone. To the poster who asked: "What do you do if one sector is out of flavor for a few years?" In that case, you would hope that you have made a killing on the sector you consider yourself to be an expert in and can work with mediocre returns when that sector is...

    Why Diversify Your Portfolio?

I agree. I'm not necessarily talking about these instances. In hindsight, we could've all avoided Enron and we could all invest in the Googles of the world without diversification and get rich. In Enron's case, as you pointed out, these people were experts in their fields, but obviously they...

    Why Diversify Your Portfolio?

Moderators can feel free to move the thread to its appropriate section. My question is - does diversification make sense to you? If so, up to what extent? And no, I don't think I'm confusing entrepreneurs and passive investors. Just like an entrepreneur who's an expert in technology can't...

    Why Diversify Your Portfolio?

It's great to get advise from financial planners, advisors etc. who tell you to diversify your portfolio so you don't get hit hard if/when a particular sector goes out of flavor, but really, how practical is that, esp. if you are managing your own money? There's so much news and research to...

    Why Companies Go Public?

so while it doesn't impact the company directly on overall price fluctuations (i.e., they don't get a lump sum check of $100MM every month, for instance), they can obviously use those shares to secure debt, acquire companies etc. And I'm thinking when they acquire companies or secure debt...
