Are you guys using mobile networks or WiFi? I've found that I almost always get immediate notification on WiFi but on the mobile network (Verizon) I never get the notification. So when I'm on the mobile network like at work I have to do the manual authentication.
I know that in the past IB only provided aggregated tick data but the latest API version is providing apparently true tick data.

For me I found I absolutely suck at picking direction so directional trading on anything is lost on me.
Option trading slows down the action and gives me the chance to adjust to being wrong on direction and still make money.
The combo itself has its own market. So if someone has a buy or sell order on the combo then the combo bid/ask takes precedence over the derived bid/ask you'd get from the bid/ask of the legs.
