IB and SVXY in an IRA

I talked to customer service today, and they said that only way around this was to transfer position to another broker or close it out. However, the put options(on one security) I sold a few days ago were illiquid so not interested in getting reamed on that one. They said something about I...

Health insurance individual mandate investor/trader(not considered self employed)

I have been looking at the health insurance individual mandate for investor/traders(not considered self employed) for filing a 1040 form for 2014. It appears that if you just check the box that you maintained health coverage for the year and that is it. In my case, I purchased health insurance...

Scalping MSFT, too expensive. Cheaper stock suggestion?

The problem is that when you move down in price to a security that has similar liquidity and stabiltiy to MSFT, then I think you will have to scalp for less than $.03. From your post, I am assuming that you are using IB(or similar) as a broker, so the bigger volumes will also drive up...

Why does Seeking Alpha make yahoo headlines?

Everybody(except Yahoo Finance) knows that Seeking Alpha is a joke. The only qualification that you need to publish articles is to be willing to do it for free.

Do you believe in seasonality? (Trader's Almanac)

For specific stocks, can toggle between 2, 3, and 5 yr timeframe. http://seasonalitycharts.appspot.com/?ticker=POT&view=charts&range=5y I look at it quite often. I don't think it is something that should be ignored.

On Don Bright & his trading methods

As has been stated many times on these threads, Bright requires a min. $25K deposit. As far as success rate at Bright Trading, they usually get about 40 people to sign up for their $1250 "Basics" class. About 20 will eventually join the firm, 10 will be left after 1 year, about 5 after 2...

Is it advisable to do this?

If you really were an accountant, you should not need a "professional advisor." Every city in this country has had multiple cases of so called "professional advisors" that have been exposed as scammers. In addition, it sounds like you have time on your hands anyway, so you should be able...

Where to find Balance Sheets for last 10 + years

I would think using Edgar would be very labor intensive. My suggestion would be the PDF's from Standard and Poors(I get electronic access free through Scottrade), or ValueLine(I get electronic access free through my local, public library), and you can extract data from these PDF's using...

    Long term investing software

lightsedge, read "What works on Wall Street", 2005 version for a comparison of various backtesting strategies for long term investing. Yahoo Finance has a pretty decent free screener. In addition, the ValueLine database and screener are accessible online and a lot of the data downloads...

    Anyone receive a 1099 rather than a W2??

Not enough info given in the initial post to even begin to answer this question. However, if you're an "Investor" in the IRS's eyes, you account for your gains and losses on Schedule D, just like always. If you are a "Trader" then that puts you in another world as far as the IRS is concerned.
