I've read about Paul Rotter, thanks. Is that all you have to say?

    Trading like a Local

Hi Bone, I know you are a respected guy here on ET, and I don't want to rub you the wrong way. But there are still screen based locals, right? In Chicago, New York, frankfurt and London (or wherever the computer is), "locals", as I understand it, are still an important piece of the picture...

    Trading like a Local

Hi, Sure I can elaborate. I think some people seem to be jumping to conclusions from the first post I made. "buying bids and selling offers" sure is a nice idea, but i know it isn't that straightforward. that bit of what i said might be a bit misleading, but i have said that there is alot...

making a video turned out to be a pain in the ass so I'm not going to bother. buying the bid and selling teh ask is indeed the idea I have, but there is a bit more to it than that, like other traders competing for the same fills, managing trades that go against you as well as trades that go...

I'm not sure what you mean... algo's have dominated most or few markets? And, about algos, here is my researched but inexperienced 2 cents... most of what I read about "pure HFT" is done on equity exchanges where some firms can post and cancel "flash" orders before other firms get the chance...

Hi, i agree that if it was just a case of posting bids and offers then a human being would be outperformed by a computer (I think at least). But, I think, the overall market which absorbes all the "flow" is mostly a limited number of humans (like a big poker table), and if you can see...

Hi, Obviously trades can go against you, but earning the spread (I think) doesn't just mean taking one tick winners. You could ride it up 4 or 5 (or 40 or 50) ticks, the idea is that you get in on one side and out on the other. The ticks inbetween are, in essence, "noise". Also, from...

Yeah, commissions are something on my mind. I think overall plan will be build a track record and then try to get in a prop shop with much lower commissions than I'll start out paying. Leasing seat on exchange is also possibility depending on progress.

Hi, what caveats please? As I said in another post, I understand fill algos and stuff. I don;t expect just to post bids/offers and wait for the cash to roll in :-)

    Trading like a Local

Hi, I have read a few of your posts on ET, so thanks for contributing :-) But to your point, I think just trying to buy bids and sell offers is now the realm of co-locators and computers. I agree that a human just trying to do that will end up being too slow/inefficient. But, I think...

Hi everyone, thanks for reading, I will answer questions as best I can: Well yes, of course it can run away from you. the hard bit will be knowing when is "too far" and getting out ASAP, just by crossing the spread. From watching the markets, my idea is that they move exponentially - it's OK...

hi, long time lurker, long been interested in trading, about to give it a go. So I read alot of threads about "edges" and "systems" and "strategies", and whether the euro is fucked or not, whether the dollar is fucked or not, QE3 or no QE3, support and resistance, overbought and oversold...
