Everyones different I guess? I started with equities, having mixed results then went over to futures and never looked back. I felt equities were prone to much more manipulation. Just my 2 cents.
I scalp GC and go based on momentum. I will enter on a burst and as soon as the move slows down I'm out. I mainly depend on the tape. So no, I don't have a predetermined exit or profit.
I personally trade gold during the U.S. pit session. When I watch the tape I look for price rejection, momentum, little guys (dumb money) and big guys (pros).

Turn off all the charts and watch the T&S and DOM only. If you like you can also paper trade along with them. It will take time, but after a while you will see support, resistance, and other patterns. Just be careful of the games played in the DOM as they can try to trick you.
