    CL Looks Tired (3/26/2013)

Indeed, and also quite sad that by your own admissions earlier in this thread you have little idea about the dynamics of the market you trade, but yet are so quick to lecture those that do. Yep. Supply and demand for a derivative != supply and demand for its underlying. That's why...

    CL Looks Tired (3/26/2013)

At what point did I mention fundamentals? You misunderstood what I meant when I said supply and demand. I was refering to supply and demand of the instrument; Not the underlying. The vast majority of CL contracts never result in delivery. They are used for hedging, speculation etc.

    CL Looks Tired (3/26/2013)

These days you are lucky if you get one 100+ tick swing per day. The spot Crude Oil VIX closed below 18 yesterday (http://ycharts.com/indicators/crude_oil_volatility_index). Not much doing I'm sure you'll agree. Add the swings together. If you are a professional intraday trader then you...

    CL Looks Tired (3/26/2013)

I beg to differ. Professional traders care deeply about the supply/demand dynamics throughout every session. Each to their own though. $1.65 is nothing. A few years ago there were regularly days when the cumulative total of tradable swings topped 500 ticks.

Supply and demand. Same as it always is. In my experience most perceived correlations, when properly analysed, are not statistically significant and can be attributed to coincidence. I do miss the crazy days of 2011 though when crude and natty would regularly offer up 100+ tick swings...

    Horrible Disaster Stories

That's the most important validation routine to run IMHO. If the data you are processing is stale you don't have a fucking clue what is happening at the exchange and your dick is left flapping in the wind. Worst bug I caught involved an edge case I hadn't considered. Led to a loop being...

    Trading Levels

Of course you are right, anyone can pick price levels. I've seen hardly anyone on this site who can pick out the correct levels though. Which crude levels you liking? I reckon 99.25 looks interesting now.

    Trading Levels

Of course that's assuming we get to the 99.50 area. If there are still weak longs in the market we're likely to see a significant reaction to 99.00 and another drop. :)

    Trading Levels

It's good to see someone on these forums who understands how markets work. It's obvious to me that you are familiar with the fundamental principles of trading. As you have stated, this game is all about correctly identifying these levels and then analysing how market participants react when they...

    Automated Trading Developer

I have to be honest with you here. Any coders worth their salt with the experience required to build a robust algo trading platform aren't going to be cheap. Here in London you'd struggle to get a good one for less than £500 per day. A great one will cost you much, much more. You'd be able...

    Professional Backtesting Engine?

Thanks for the suggestion. I spent quite a bit of time evaluating OpenQuant a few years ago though when I first started out. It was a horror story. Mediocre product brought down further by dreadful customer service. I wouldn't touch anything from SmartQuant.

    Professional Backtesting Engine?

Yeah, I've considered that but it'd only marginally reduce the hassle. I'd still have to: (1) Spend time finding a reliable, skilled freelance developer who would be prepared to take on the ad-hoc work (anyone half decent is going to cost me at least £400 a day and I'll have to pay them a...

    Professional Backtesting Engine?

Thanks. Will add it to the list and take a look.

    Professional Backtesting Engine?

Many thanks to those of you that have PMed me. The following products have been suggested as worthy of further investigation: Alphacet - Discovery (http://www.alphacet.com/alphacet-discovery.html) Barra - Aegis System (http://www.barra.com/support/aegis/) CapitalIQ - ClariFI...

    Professional Backtesting Engine?

Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand your reasoning. Market data is market data, it can be bought in industry standard formats from several sources. A good backtesting platform (for exchange traded products) just needs to expose a simple API which mimics the operation of an exchange...
