NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

That's right. Obviously on news days there will be more daily volume so you can place slightly larger orders. Best of luck with everything! Sam.

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

The opening cross would have happened at 1 single price. The other trades that occurred between 72.49 and 73.48 would have either been on ECNs or on the NYSE later in that opening minute. It is unfortunate that the cross occurred at the bottom end of the range but that is only partly due to...

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

I always route NYSE MOO orders to NYSE so no experience. There is good volume going through the NYSE, especially on news days.

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

As far as I know you cannot get advance figures for the current open as you can continue to submit orders until 09:28:00 for nasdaq and right up to the open for NYSE - perhaps Don can confirm this. However, you can download historical data from http://emi.nasdaq.com/?tab=openclose and by...

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

Yes, definately best to use MOO. Keep your order to less than 5% of the average opening cross volume and you shouldn’t influence the price too much. As for the close. You could use a LOC order, so if the price falls in the last 20 mins it won’t get filled. If your “glancing at your...

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

I would strongly advise against placing a market order at 09:30:01. In the 1st few minutes of trading the spreads can be very wide on all but the most liquid stocks. I would either avoid the open altogether or submit orders for the opening cross. The opening cross typically represents about...

NYSE MOO Fills Worse Since 11/1/07?

I use MOO orders almost every day. Yahoo finance open prices represent the price at 09:30:00 (if a trade has occured pre-open) or the 1st trade after 09:30:00. Nasdaq open cross prices tend to closely match yahoo prices as the Nasdaq cross occurs a few seconds after 09:30:00 and nasdaq...

Market on open / close question

You can short Nasdaq stocks at the open but not NYSE unless is uptick. You will get the single auction price BUT be aware that if your order is large in relation to the volume that is crossed at the open then you will be influencing the opening price and so will incur market impact losses. To...

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

I agree that it would be nice to know this stuff in advance before IB changes it. This can be very annoying indeed! Not sure about hard to borrow stock charges. Just like that fact that you don't have to keep resubmitting an order to check whether it has become available to borrow.

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

gaj, Was also annoyed when they 1st made the change, but the fact that you can have an order that expresses your interest to short a stock and gives IB a chance to find the stock for you is a good thing in my opinion. Before this change, if the stock was not available then your order was...

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

To check if there is any stock available, simply enter a limit order to sell way above the ask, this way, if the shares are available then the order will turn green, but won't be executed as not marketable, then you can immediately cancel the order.

IB TWS issues last couple of days...

Risktaker, Had exactly the same problem myself both today and yesterday, but a lot worse today in last hour of trading. Currently holding a large number of positions I wanted to get out off before the close, fortunately am reasonably hedged! Think it is something to do with frozen Island...
