DV Trading (Toronto) Going Out of Business?

Does anyone know if they are still in business? Someone told me they are collapsing in the 2008 crash, but that was a few weeks ago.

    prop firm for trend/swing trader

Firms likely won't talk to you if you even mention it. Overnight trading tends to scare them away. Institutional trading, that's another story - there you would find people with similar goals... why don't you try that route.

contract size/ number of ticks on the ES

I agree - there's a big difference from what people hear then what their monthly statements would reveal. Plus, the biggest money in futures is typically in overnight trading. Beefy positions, holding for days, weeks, months.

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

I agree with you here. You can guarantee that the firm, once they detect you are a consistent and profitable trader, will try to reverse engineer your methods...to try and duplicate it to make more money. However, if they would actually be successful at this, that's another reality. Unless...

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

YES, this is major factor and advantage. The slippage can be very small to none in futures. There's so much money on the line and it's so much easier with just single contracts. My orders are always filled instantly.

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

I disagree - the risk is not the same. There are many futures contracts out there and they are all different in terms of leverage and contract value. Some markets have limits, and a strong move can activate this limit very quickly. The mini contracts, OK I agree with just 1 contract you...

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

This is the wrong forum to be asking this question. 1. Most of the people who read this form are prop traders so of course they will be biased. 2. Most of the people are stock traders and have little to no experience in the futures market....or they could never make money in the futures...

    Prop trader earnings

I did prop for a number of years and still do to some extent, and can tell you that alot of that fluff talk may have sort of worked years ago, but times have changed big time. It's all nonsense talk anyways...then and and now. The fact is, prop firms generally aren't making money like they...

Why successful traders chose to work for prop firms?

Trading at a prop firm doesn't give you an edge...it's the trader who either has it or doesn't. If that was the case, there would be WAY more successful lasting traders in these shops, and generally they don't have this. In fact from what I hear, alot of the stock shops can't retain as much as...

Why successful traders chose to work for prop firms?

The key is, this is buying power not capital - there's a big difference. I think what you meant to say is that the trader has access to more leverage than retail. His own capital never changed (unless obviously he's making money down the road and growing the account over time), but the firm...

Why successful traders chose to work for prop firms?

True - I agree with some of these benefits, but at the end of the day it's the trader who makes or breaks it. There are a multitude of strategies and no cook book formula exists. Some things work for some, some things don't work for some. If you can make money, you can make money...that's...

Why successful traders chose to work for prop firms?

Successful traders may prefer prop over retail, or retail over prop. There are successful traders on both sides and one is not better than the other. There's a trade off on both sides. Making the transition from one to the other after doing one for years may or may not work.

Will Credit Trading Last and What May Kill It?

I remember some guys on here saying the credit trading done by a number of prop traders may come to an end, and end to the strategy. Does anyone know why exactly this may happen? To recap - this refers to the credit and debit to the trader from the ECN per number of lots. Or am I out of...
