Do Not Buy Gas May 19, 2004!!

"You have a business that is in the hands of a few men, and they see that the price is kept up. It's not regulated by supply and demand, it's regulated by manipulation." -- Will Rogers circa 1918-1935 Front inside jacket, The Best of Will Rogers

Visiting Chicago - CME or CBOT floor tour?

If you have a futures broker, ask a rep from the firm to give you a tour (contact them several days out). A CBOT member (generally) can get you on the floor without an appointment/reservation. The CME (generally) requires a head's up of a day or two. Visit the Eurodollar Pit (upper...

    Better trading system available?

IMHO the system isn't bad start, but you should at least factor commission/slippage. With $25/turn you are looking at $55 avg.profit/trade. That is a little low. Try adding a filter (indicator or time based). On several of my systems, filtering out known "no trade zones" of the day...

System longengevity? How long can a decent system last on average?

In theory yes, in reality no. While self-adjusting parameters will allow a system to compensate for normal variations of the underlying, if a fundamental change in the underlying occurs, it can likely effect a system beyond help. An example is volatility or liquidity. If either shrink to a...

    Buying Trading Systems ?

If someone is paying $50/rt, they are being legally raped. I have a broker trade two systems for me and I pay less than $14/rt per emini (ES). This isn't a special rate, just a rate provided after asking.

    Pit Traded "realtime" charts?

The statements about the CME clerks typing in the orders, the off-floor traders arbing the emini/full contract spread and the emini leading the pit (sometimes) are true. The guys in the pit watch a 15 min bar chart of the emini. A large portion of new traders (traders growing up with video...

    Handling Skepticism from Loved Ones

I went through something like this when I left the "corporate" world ... I took a buyout offer and most of my "friends" from work thought I was doing the wrong thing. Two years later, I'm doing great while most of them have been laid off and are scrambling for work. While I don't...
