    miss trading

Nice post. So what do you do now, if you don't mind me asking ? And if you don't miss the equity swings, what is it that you do miss ? Having had a fairly successful first year in full time trading, I am now finding things tougher with the result that I am having to use the excess profits...

    The Disciplined Trader

Saw this thread and just had to comment. Just back from holiday, where 'The Disciplined Trader' was, once again, my constant companion. My wife simply cannot believe how I can read one book so many times. When I read it the first time over a year ago, I raced through it. Took me just...

    Mathematician Plays the Stock Market

For what it's worth, his previous book about mathematical 'innumeracy' is I think worth a look - lots of examples of widespread mistakes made in assessing probability etc.

On CFD's, spreadbetting and horse racing

Been a bit late picking up on this thread, but here goes anyway ... I find it interesting that you are so disparaging (esp. Girlpower) about spreadbetting. Right from the off, I'll make it clear I have nothing to do with the industry - I'm a full-time UK trader who happens to make the...

    Trading with $500,000.00

I had nearly deserted this thread because it had become so loopy, but am very happy to swerve off and turn it into a discussion about the merits of buying or renting. I owned property since '92 in London, and sold my last house in '01. I sold it because I was sick to death of all the dinner...

    Trading with $500,000.00

This is really tiresome TM. Shall we drop it ? I've got no idea who Harry123 is. I once posted to a thread started by Harrytrader. Perhaps you have a conspiracy theory about that too ?

    Trading with $500,000.00

And there's the rub TM. You just hit the nail on the head. Harry's not only searching for advice on HOW to 'keep doing' that - but also IF trading and taking the same % risk is the right thing to do. P>S am not in cahoots with Harry - but like I said earlier, I am wrestling with the...

    Trading with $500,000.00

An old Zen riddle: In a meeting between a wise man and a fool, who comes away learning more ? You know the answer .......

    Trading with $500,000.00

Sorry GreenDog - bit of an over reaction on my part. Just think this is a very interesting thread - and am keen to defend it. Would love to know why you think it is silly ?

    Trading with $500,000.00

And here again is the proof that account size growth produces challenging psychological problems for some people ...... not only for the trader, but those around him. GreenDog - where exactly in Harry's original post did you pick up any hint of bragging, arrogance or posturing ? I'd love to...

    Trading with $500,000.00

Banjo Just out of interest - does that mean you keep individual trade risk consistant between the accounts - e.g. if you decide your max trade risk is 1.5%, then in the intraday account that would equate to never risking more than 0.3% of your total capital per trade (20% of 1.5%) ?

    Trading with $500,000.00

Good thread Harry. Ignore the sniping. It's an interesting one. I often think about this with my account. I have worked it up to a similar amount, and have found myself getting increasing defensive. I principally trade equity indices & individual stocks/sectors. I try extremely hard to...

What good do daytraders do to society?

Good thread - but Harrytrader seems to have gone a bit AWOL and off topic with the conspiracy theories. As a humble Englishman in great fear of the mighty USofA, I can vouch that we are not yet in expansionary mode again. But now the Fed governor Bernanke has given the OK to the destruction of...

    Excel Max Draw Down?

Sure. On my worksheets I always start with data from raw equity p&l and then take it from there ... tends to avoid confusion. Thanks again.
