Reading books is entertaining when you are new to trading. I remember wanting to get my hands on everything. The only struggle is actually implementing everything. The best thing to do is find someone who's profitable and who's strategy makes sense to you.

If you understand how trends begin, end, and continue, its not about a certain "pattern." Think of it as a premise. The way stocks trends have not changed... some strategies may have stopped working over the years, but if you understand how trends move, this is and will always be constant.

What I always tell people who have read technical analysis books and think they know it all... "There's a big difference between looking a chart and actually trading."
