    Fractal Theory: Redux

No argument at all. It is then a question of one finding 'where' it is one prefers to trade in the sense of which time frame. I like 15 min ES. Others will choose something else. One of course can use the time frames above and below the 'trading' time frame as aids.

How do you determine trend direction?

In truth I have no idea what point you are trying to make but if you can make money with said point then please do. I'm not trying to be a smartass it's just that it's clear to me we look at the market differently. I'm talking about trend lines - pure and simple.

    Fractal Theory: Redux

This has the potential of being a very good thread providing we do not, as the saying goes, "venture too far down the rabbit-hole". So let me move things up a few levels and suggest that there are things one sees with DOM that one doesn't see with non-DOM, where DOM refers to the dominant trend...

How do you determine trend direction?

This thread was left dangling. One need not get into the 1-2-3 thingy to get better control of what one is doing. I will only say that it does indicate that before one gets a reversal there must first be a retrace. So a few more points re the RTL (right trend line) which is what most people...

    Fractal Theory: Redux

Is this a rhetorical question? What's on the other side of a 50 car order? Why big green, naturellement.

    Fractal Theory: Redux

TS data is raw data so there is really no such thing as 'raw' TS data. When, as Jack used to call them, the big green crew on the sidelines, steps in at the market, the book either stands or falls.

    Fractal Theory: Redux

Much simpler to just watch the wall in real time - it either stands or falls. In this instance "...meant what he said ..." simply refers to Jack using the T&S in a particular way. If you'll recollect, the post began with a reference to his manner of speaking. More generally, he was a firm...

How do you determine trend direction?

Mandelbrot was not the first to see the market waves but he gave the whole wave thing a touch of class. Using a simple up/down/up generator and rotating it from +90 degrees to something < -90 degrees to give a down up down generator (Mandelbrot did not use this method) you can generate the...

How do you determine trend direction?

It is a given that the market is either trending or it isn't trending. Consolidation is a more general expression of A and D. So we need to move on from the obvious. One question to be answered is when is Distribution going to end and the downtrend begin and similarly when is Accumulation...

How do you determine trend direction?

Oh WTF - it's almost Hallowe'en. The word is the number "3". If you look at his fractal generator you will see how he envisaged this 3 thingy.

    Fractal Theory: Redux

To say that Jack could be a bit on the cryptic side would be an understatement. What he's talking about with the YM reference, IMO, is that if YM showed anything but a completed 3rd leg, then one should hold. The T&S stuff is beyond my ken but I have no doubt that Jack meant what he said. In...

How do you determine trend direction?

IMO, the only true trendline is the Sperandeo trend line. It is what the smart money uses. Trendlines have influence/are felt over multiple time frames and highly correlated (r2 > 0.95) instruments. That said, if you wish to use some other TL protocol, please do.

How do you determine trend direction?

Here is a trace from a few days ago during and after rollover. It serves to illustrate the utility of a TL. I draw channels but you don't have to. The start of the downtrend is in the early AM of 9/8. One can, in real time draw left to right TL's and basically just sit until price bumps into...

How do you determine trend direction?

Taleb's books were great. He is a must read for anyone serious about the markets. It would spoil the fun if I told you but what is there is worth the search. Fractality certainly sums up the book but then that's not surprising. This finding surprised Mandelbrot.

How do you determine trend direction?

And also with you. When the logic which drives your anticipation is Boolean, there is only one possibility. But it can be (and has been) a sonamabitch to achieve that Boolean state. Benoit Mandelbrot authored a great book called "The Misbehavior of Markets". IMO, there is a single word...
