    Abk Halted!!!

I hope Charley got out of his position OK. This was one of the biggest non-events I've seen in a while. One of the news services had a story this morning about ABK, saying that a stock nobody followed a year ago, trading below $10, is now one of the pivotal stocks to move the market...

How secure are FDIC / SIPC protection?

Maybe not. Depending on what's left over, you may get $0.60 or $0.92 on the dollar for amounts over $100k. But they may have to sell the assets, that could take months or a year or two. kny 3

How secure are FDIC / SIPC protection?

Yup. Most firms have "excess SIPC", that's insurance from 3rd parties, not covered by SIPC. That could be interesting too. Cash & positions can be ties up for days, weeks or months if SIPC steps in. So you are insured but you don't want to be involved in one of these. kny 3

Question on Options Expiration and Trading Halt: HAR

I am a complete idiot, thanks, but that's not the point of this. The original post by Neke asked "does anyone know what happens when a stock is halted & you don't have a chance to close the position...?". My example said "If, for example" the stock was trading at $102... . Neke then asked...

Question on Options Expiration and Trading Halt: HAR

Not necessarily. The OCC won't exercise them unless they are notified that they should do so. What % of traders and investors contacted their broker and said "Exercise the O-T-M 95 put?" Some thought they were worthless, others like you thought they would be exercised automatically bacause...
