QuoteTracker To Be Finished End of 2011

I loaded Quotetracker onto a new computer and applied a previous fix for the backfill problem. It works fine with Interactive Brokers for currencies and most stocks but when I add some new symbols like MSFT and INTC I receive no data. Yet RMBS and 3 character symbols like DUK and XOM work...

    IB and cheap money

The idea is that you'll purchase dividend paying stocks that yield more than the low interest charged on margin loans at IB. It's great if you can tolerate the risk of declining stock prices caused by a general market correction, dividend cut, etc.

IB Handling of Cancel Order, Does it make sense??

I haven't had any problem with OCA orders as well. Where the orders reside is beside the point. If one is executed, the others are cancelled. There's the remote possibility that multiple orders will be executed simultaneously but that's the risk you taken with this type of order.

    IB Intraday Margin

The margin call at IB will not be after you "go into the red by a few percent". They update your account balances every few minutes. If your available margin is less than 5% of your account balance you'll get a warning message. But if your available margin goes negative, you'll here "ding"...

how I walk into a trap and lost $1k

My rules for pre and post market trading are 1) avoid it, but if I do it, 2) triple check everything before transmitting.

Tell me what you get for a profit.

    Your cash flow on this trade, including IB commissions (.005 per share with $1 ticket minimum) is: Bought 1000 = -23,490 - 5 = -23,495 Bought 1000 = -23,390 - 5 = - 23,395 Bought 1000 = -23,250 - 5 = - 23,255 Sold 50 = +1178 - 1 = 1,177 Sold 2950 = +69,030 - 14.75 = 69,015.25 NET P/L =...

Question about trade busts and cancellations

Only the trades that are deemed to be erroneous are going to be busted. It may only cover a very brief period such as a few trades occurring during a few seconds. Not all trades.

What happens when brokers go bust?

Your broker holds your cash and investments in trust. You're not investing in the broker themselves. So if they go bust, and they haven't been using client funds (which is against the law), you suffer no loss. If client funds have been diverted, then SIPC insurance kicks in up to their limits...

    Youtube trading videos

This was my all time favorate. I don't know if he was able to stick it out but I recall at the time that had he held on for just a few hours, the trade turned around and he could have broken even.

    Accounting and Trading

If you're managing your business on a cash basis, then your start-up costs should be deductible against other income (excluding costs for depreciable/amortizable assets). What the IRS will do is monitor your business P/L over time to evaluate if it was a legitamate attempt at business, a hobby...

    Anyone trade at night?

I start my trading day around 2am and have adjusted my trade style to not require me to monitor the market continuously. After setting up some trades I go back to bed and usually find that I'm back up again in 30 to 45 minutes, repeating the cycle until around 7am when I'm up for good. Trading...

individual IB deposit insurance: contacts anybody?

This is from IB's website. You're automatically covered for more than the first $1M of cash without charge. "Customer securities accounts at Interactive Brokers are protected by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation ("SIPC") for a maximum coverage of $500,000 (with a cash sublimit...

    Why allow Busted Trades?

Busted trades aren't always due to a trader on one side of the transaction screwing up. The exchange themselves can send out execution reports that are in error. And what if you have a stop loss order that is executed solely due to a fat finger trade. Do you really want to be forced to have...
