every 5 years or so the name changes. some guy from UBS gave me his card a few weeks ago and it said something creative like "wealth manager."

Prop Trading Firms - Note On Threatening Regulatory Developments

I found the following at traderstatus.com. Most people reading this thread do not have series 24 or 27, work compliance at a prop/arcade or run a jumbo hedge fund. So how does being a JBO negate a requirement to share in profits in profits and losses and not take personal deposits? If...

Prop Trading Firms - Note On Threatening Regulatory Developments

I pulled this up on hfalert.com: Joint back office A clearing operation that a hedge fund jointly owns with a prime broker for the purpose of exceeding the Federal Reserve's Regulation T limits on margin borrowing. By assuming an ownership stake in such a clearing operation, a fund can...

the self- regulated don't tend to look kindly on those not in the group. Be it lawyers, doctors or investment banks. Exclusivity protects their bottom lines.

Prop Trading Firms - Note On Threatening Regulatory Developments

There will be some loophole that gets exploited if anything goes down. Like a firm could require attending a related company that charges $4000 in "training fees." When the trader loses $4000 of firm money, a refresher course would be required before trading "firm" money again. HLV, I think...

Can Anyone Honestly Vouch for CANSLIM?

Look out for big drops in the IBD 100 names that are illiquid. Part of CANSLIM is cutting losses, so there are frequently big exagerated shakeouts in those stocks. CANSLIM is a position trade strategy, but it doesn't consider the quality of the company and business in practice. Many of the...

Will anyone ever beat Zangar's World Record of turning $10k into 42million in 18 mos?

Just curious. Did Zanger use options? Also, does anybody remember what the margin requirements were for the photonic and genomic stocks were? I vaguely remember DIGL being the standard margin requirement, but I could be wrong. Concentrated buying on the dips and pyramiding on stocks that go...

Will anyone ever beat Zangar's World Record of turning $10k into 42million in 18 mos?

I agree that 2 x leverage makes his accomplishment virtually impossible. On greater leverage and with millions of investors/traders, who knows? Zanger is further proof that there is no correlation between trading aptitude and educational achievement, social standing, bank account size...

Will anyone ever beat Zangar's World Record of turning $10k into 42million in 18 mos?

Most active online brokerage accounts lost money or broke even during 1997- 2000 while mostly going long. It wasn't just market rubes trading $500 at Etrade either. I had the chance to look over thousands of accounts at three different brokerages (one full-service, one deep discount and one...

Will anyone ever beat Zangar's World Record of turning $10k into 42million in 18 mos?

My craziest story was buying SCKT at $0.80, selling it around $7 and then seeing it fly to $50 in less than a year. It was 99/2000 of course. I have reliable hearsay evidence that one of my ex bosses ran $40k to almost $100M during the 90's tech boom.

Will anyone ever beat Zangar's World Record of turning $10k into 42million in 18 mos?

The record will be beat eventually but maybe not recorded. There are more traders and access to leverage in the World and financial knowledge is increasing. With more leverage used by the pros comes more extreme moves and periods of instability, wind downs, etc. (?).
