why would the market gap down on monday?

a question to consider: is there a difference (other than semantic) between "averaging down" and "scaling in"? of course, one can scale into a position that is already in the black.... but what about the other way round?

oil price went up thousands of percent since 1998. gas price did not

what's interesting to me is here we are - quad witching expiry week. and last friday es closed @ 1254ish and at this writing (at 3pm edt) here we are @ es 1254 ish....
