I'm not trying to disparage Topstep. I'm merely trying to understand why people go with them to begin with? Futures don't require a lot of money to trade. Couldn't a new trader just open an account somewhere and paper trade? Is it purely for the structure and advice that Topstep provides...
The vast majority of the HFT firms that shut down that day did it because they didn't trust the data they were receiving. Of the ones I know that kept going that day made a killing.
I don't trade retail. Except for my retirement account. They can have the order flow on my 10 trades a year. :)
BTW, Robinhood openly admits they will sell order flow. Part of the reason they think they can survive with $0 comms.
I guess the argument is. Even if you are paying $9.99 at Ameritrade, they are still making you pay in other ways. They just screw you an extra 10 bucks.
As far as I know, they are working on all 50 states. There will be an API available, so you will be able to trade by other means. However, the API is one of the ways they plan to make money. So there will be a fee for that.
No margin trading yet either.
BTW, this is really geared...
I guess the "so what" is that it hasn't been done before in equities (as far as I know). I thought about them making the spread, however, I don't think this is the case. Not from what I've heard (unofficially of course).
I'm surprised that no one posted a thread about this. There is a new brokerage opening up in Silicon Valley that claims it will allow trading with no commissions.
It was started by a couple of prior high frequency traders. They haven't officially launched yet, but is worth a read.

I doubt there is a virus. However, with Pracplays recent shenanigans, I guess I wouldn't put anything past them.
Glean is a waste of time and money that is destroying Tradelink as far as I'm concerned. Seek out the user forked Glean-less version of Tradelink if you want a true open-source...
It isn't a charity. When you make a trade, are you looking out for whoever is on the other side? Maybe taking a hit so that they get a better fill? Not everyone is going to be happy all the time. Someone always gets the short end of the stick.
Everyone and every firm is out to improve...
Id take anything Nanex says with a grain of salt. They strike me as attention seekers who make sensational headlines to extend their perceived 15 minutes of fame. If Eric would take his blinders off, perhaps he'd see that a good deal of his nonsense is explainable. His self proclaimed...
Personally, I'd stop having communications with them. Kindly instruct them to stay off of your property or you will involve the police. If they continue to bother you, I'd look into a restraining order for harassment.
You sound like a reasonable person, but I would simply stop being so...
