Key question, to me, is what you would do for health insurance. Imagine that you don't have insurance and one of your kids becomes ill (god forbid) - how would you handle that? That's the real risk that you have to measure and have a plan for. Good luck!
I seem to remember Interactive Brokers making an acquisition that many people thought was going to lead to a better platform - I've looked at the FutureTrade acquisition but that doesn't look like it. Anybody remember anything about this, or am I just remembering incorrectly?
Ok - still mystified as to why you don't want to name the platform - which is too bad because I think you're right about the example you've given. I'm going to see if AB has any solution, if not, I'm going to have to go back and retest some strategies using Excel to do the stops!
I do variable position sizing in AB - some standard ones like volatility position sizing and some others that I've come up with myself. Not difficult and accurate as long as I'm calculating on the prior close. If I'm trying to size based on, say, the current close, then I have to do an...
Don't really know about it for automated trading as it's not my area - I just do long term and swing trading.
Ok - I'll guess it is TickZoom? I'm not clear why you're reluctant to say the name.

Well, I tend to trade without stops for the most part as I've found they...
Signalstop - you point to some inherit limitations in the data - the answer, for me, is when using daily bars to not rely on limit orders and only trade on the open or close (preferably the close as the open price has problems), and, finally, to make sure you've got a good amount of slippage...
You can currently only automate a strategy with AB using InteractiveBrokers and the IB Controller add-on. As has been pointed out, the focus of AB is really more on analysis than automated trading. It is particularly strong at doing portfolio-level backtesting - I consider it second only to...
Excellent points - didn't understand he was looking for intraday scanning. TD Ameritrade's StrategyDesk would be a good choice, as I think you can setup an account for about $2k and get the tool for free.
No vested interest in Amibroker, or Ninjatrader or any of the other programs that I use. As for user-friendly interface, I find it on par with most packages oriented towards testing - in many ways it is simpler - the code length required for typical systems is much, much shorter in AB than...
