    Prop firms in Houston.

Yeah, energy trading is nearly impossible to break into. It's all about connections and networking. I know a few guys who have PhDs in quant trading (whatever they're called at the respective schools) and they can't even get in.

    Prop firms in austin

I didn't know Bright was in Austin...interesting. Kershner used to be known as Zone Trading. They made a killing in the mid '00s, and they've now transitioned to more quant trading. I doubt they'd take on a newbie, to be honest. There's another firm my buddies are at now (they were...

If you had to do it all over again....

While I do agree that the road to trading is not easy and you must endure a significant amount of turbulence, we'll always have coulda/shoulda/wouldas.

Top prop firm to top MBA?

As has been mentioned, you shouldn't have any trouble IF: 1) You do well on the GMAT 2) Your recommenders emphasize your leadership (if that's what's lacking from your work experience). 3) You give a convincing argument for WHY you want to attend their MBA program. A change from trading to...

Cities for starting a prop firm/hedge fund?

Houston, TX...holla!!!! Seriously, this place is on absolute fire right now. I hear the economic complaints coming from the rest of the country and I laugh, as there's no freaking way Houston can be so far ahead of the pack.

Tax help with capital loss carryover

Even tax professionals get this wrong a lot of the time. I'm using round numbers here, but I had a $30k net loss in 2011, and a $60k net gain in 2012. I interviewed an accountant who told me I could only use $3k of last year's loss to offset this year's gain. Keep in mind he was fully aware...

    Multi Monitor Desktop System

Unless you're doing complicated backtesting, then you don't need an ultrapowerful computer. FYI - I'm pretty sure tradingcomputers.com just contracts their builds out to another company - www.allpczone.com.

    2012 taxes from daytrading....shaking here

Very true, I recently had a CPA tell me that prior capital losses could only offset capital gains by $3k/year for each year they carried forward. Knowing the rule re: ordinary income, I asked him to clarify & he still maintained his position. I shook his hand & rolled out ASAP.

Best hours to trade CL/Most active time frame

These are the hours I typically trade it too. You can pile in on some decent trends in the hours prior to that, but the volume is so low that I usually don't feel comfortable trading that price action.

Advice for a new futures trader

Depending on you strategies, another alternative is a crude ETF. You won't be able to scalp it, but I'd imagine you'll be able to do some decent swing trading with it. Along the way you will learn more about the market.

    Houston recommendation needed - accountant

My current accountant recently proved to me that he doesn't know WTF he's doing when it comes to providing guidance re: trading. Not only is he not familiar with how commodities are taxed, but he was confused when I raised the issue of carried losses applied towards future gains (he tried...

I want to start a career as Trader. Need advice

If you're talking about yourself, then now is the time you leverage your MBA contacts and career office. Booth has a terrific name in the finance industry, and you need to capitalize on that. Did you enjoy your time there? I'll be applying in the next few years and I'm always interested in...
