That makes sense. How should a retail trader decide if there is enough liquidity in an option to trade? What is considered decent volume and a tight spread in options?

Thanks Robert! Is that for just VIX or for the other symbols as well, such as VXN, VXST etc? I've got a really robust system for trading the VIX and I'm guessing it would work similarly on any of the volatility indices, but that won't mean a thing if there's no liquidity in the options.

I was asking about VIX specifically, because under certain circumstances, the minute to minute change of the VIX look pretty predictable. Any other instrument looks to me like suicide/gambling.
