So just to make sure I understand, day trades using margin where you buy and sell on the same day are never charged margin interest since you sold by the end of day and aren't holding overnight?

When you sell an ETF does it always take 3 days to settle, even if you had held the ETF (with no trades) for years? What about buying an ETF? Does the buy always take 3 days to settle? What about mutual funds? Do those take 3 days to settle as well (buying and selling)?

Could you explain a little more? Are you saying the guy in the OP is correct and HFT can't move the S&P 500?
