Thanks shadowpug, good advice. I have looked at the NeoTicker demo, but as you say, there is a bit of a learning curve up front, so I hadn't yet gotten a good sense of the app. On your advice I'll roll up my sleeves and dig in and see what I can make of it.

Have had good results with the Samsung LCDs. Planars have also worked well for me. Haven't noticed a huge difference going DVI in over analog tho.

Jai's got a good point. Economics of growing up are only one part of it. What makes someone better able to handle trading than someone else? Many factors. How about developing indicators to chart the effects of upbringing, class, education, and circumstance on trading skill? :p

Give the IT guy some stock tips and a copy of your favorite day trading book. Fiddling with charts is way more fun than mapping networks. You'll have him hooked and doing tech support for your favorite platform(s) in no time. :D

It's probably the firewall. The browser-based interface to IB seems to use port(s) other than 80 (haven't checked which one(s) specifically). Your network may be configured not to admit traffic on these ports. Check with your network admin.
