With VIX under 20 and AMZN at implied volatility low (52-week), an October combination/straddle purchase might be a good speculation. Many other stocks at historic/implied vol lows, btw.

No one on this board has verified that they are accessing IB now through SZ or HK. If trade executions are routed through NY for all servers, it makes no difference if you select a non-U.S. server.

Anything that enhances mental discipline is helpful to a trader- particularly if you consistently trade "solo" without other interactions (other traders, TV, websites, etc.) as I do.

The lack of an integrated charting platform in IB is a real shame. Even though I have an IB account, I rarely use it for this reason (and yes, I am aware of all the third party charting options-have tried them all). It is such a no brainer I wonder why they haven't done it yet? Agree that...

After much trial and error with many programs (including those mentioned here), I use Sierra charts with IB data for all ratios/spreads and have constructed well over 300 custom ratio charts. Has been very reliable and easy to customize (through Sierra's worksheet application). Amazing this...

Currently on INTC/ALTR (higher correlation + high fundamental skew- earnings expectations and profit margins). Considering TXN/XLNX (analogs). On GLG/MDG as of close. Earnings can be the best time to enter these spreads- IF volaitlity breaks your way. My biggest wins have been during earnings.

I checked this out. Looks very interesting though definitely geared to the professional options trader. The future volatility and hedge ratio calculations are more useful than any packaged product I've seen. Some real potential here...I'm going to beta this and try to get additional scanning...

I filter by strategy- not specifically interested in a particular asset. I will trade it if it makes sense to me. I try to stick with assets that have decent liquidity, and most of my holdings are hedged. At the moment, I am finding good calendar spreads, short straddles, long butterflies...
