1) Do many guys trade futures direct in IB or do most use a frontend like NinjaTrader/Multicharts etc? if so, why?
Trade with IB via NT, works well.

I haven't posted on this site in a long time but thought I would chime in and echo what another poster said with respect to consistency. I am a perfect example of a reasonably small trader but who trades very, very consistently - that has always been my objective. Consistency sets you apart...
I feel your pain (literally!). Look into getting a mouse pad with a wrist support. They sell them at any computer store. I found that to be very helpful.
I would also look into some physiotherapy.

I'm not ragging on your position. You sound like a proficient options trader and I have to respect that. It's refreshing to talk to someone who knows their stuff.

Atticus, I don't judge traders by how much bank they have, I measure them by the trades they make. I sit besides guys that are worth over $100mil so you're trying to impress the wrong guy.
Flies are defined risk and work great on GOOG. I trade them all the time.
Naked straddles are a rich man's path to the poor house.
Incidentally, there isn't a single ATM straddle that made money on GOOG this past earnings.
Buy cheap tails. If your excuse is that 'it doesn't bring in as much credit' just do more of them. With commission schedules at rock bottom levels there is NO REASON why any professional trader would take on this kind of risk.

A 4-5 point drop in volatility is quite accurate but I have always scratched my head wondering why people trade options this way. You've got about -107 vegas in your short Jan09 160 straddle so you'll make a whopping $500 per spread. There are safer and smarter ways to trade short volatility...
