    "buy" or "sell" side firm?

Sell side firms are the major brokerage houses - Goldman, Merrill, etc. They use their analysts to write reports to "sell" stocks to clients. Buy side firms are the institutional money managers - Fidelity, Janus, etc. Their analysts cover more stocks and make recommendations of stock...

    Enjoying the action in RMBS?

Just an interesting fact...the total float for Rambus is 80 million shares, and 70 million shares were traded last week... Is this really what is was like during the bubble days?

    Enjoying the action in RMBS?

I'm not touching it with a ten foot pole, personally. I just have a funny feeling that it has more upside before it pulls back to a reasonable level.

    TED turner quits AOL

I'm talking from an investment standpoint, not a trade. Its trading below book, Time Warner is almost definitely going to get spun off in the next 12 months, ad revenues are starting to increase, and they just sold off a $800 million stake in a lousy electronics company to reduce their debt...

4th quarter was $45 billion, $100 billion annual. The largest in US business history.

    TED turner quits AOL

Each time AOL takes a hit, it looks like a better and better long term play. It's going to be a frickin wild ride, but its just too damn compelling. But seriously, a $100 billion annual loss? They LOST more money than most companies are worth.

Aside from certain four letter words that spring to mind, "interesting" is about the only word that accurately describes this market.

    Like a ton of bricks...

I think it was Kudlow who predicted Bush's divvy tax cut will drive the markets up by 30%. I personally think he's being overly optimistic. I also think Monday we're going up because this war threat is getting old.

Any ideas on where the next support level is on the way down in the Dow? This geopolitical stuff really blows for the long side....

    MSFT, EBAY, IBM whacked pre-report

Why split the stock at 50? Bill Gates now owns a billion shares of MSFT, meaning he just wrote himself a check for $160,000,000 a year on dividend payments alone. If Bush gets his way, it will be untaxable, too. Thats why you split a stock at 50.
